Innovation
is the life blood of a modern technology business. Investment in
innovative research is an obligation
of world leadership, sharpening international competitiveness and
sowing the seeds of future profitability. Johnson Matthey has never
relinquished its position as one of the most innovative companies.
We spend millions of pounds each year on focused research and development
projects aimed at the products and materials technologies of the
future.
The businesses focus our research efforts
and devote considerable time and energy to analysing the probable
areas of future technology
growth, sources of product demand, and the impact of legislation.
Driven by commercial needs, much of the work is therefore evolutionary,
although a certain amount of pure research is undertaken in
search of new applications for platinum group metals.
In recognition of the company’s
continual commitment to innovation and excellence Johnson Matthey
has been awarded with the Queen’s Award no less than ten times.
First awarded
in 1968 for Export Achievement, Johnson Matthey subsequently went
on to win on many other occasions for Export, Technology, Environment
and Innovation.
From an early
stage in the history of the company, Johnson Matthey has nurtured
and developed a special interest and expertise in platinum and these
early developments formed the basis for the industrial applications
of platinum, which remain the primary interest of the company to
this day.
