Rhys Stockbridge is in his third year as an apprentice at Johnson Matthey's Brimsdown, UK site. Here he tells us about his experience of the apprenticeship programme…

Q1: Why did you decide to become an apprentice?

I became an apprentice so that I could get three years of experience under my belt and get a good education without having large university bills and no work experience, which in some cases can prove more valuable than qualifications.

Q2: What do you think are the main benefits of being an apprentice?

The three years experience, the wage and having no university fees.

Q3: What would you say to others who are thinking about becoming apprentices?

It is a good choice to make as you gain experience in the field of work you wish to have a career in. It will also allow you to decide if it is the field you want to work in.

Q5: Where do you see yourself in five years time?

In five years time I would like to see myself with an engineering business degree, looking towards moving up in Johnson Matthey with knowledge from the bottom up to improve aspects of the business to the best of my capability.

Q6: What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy the people I work with. I enjoy the environment in which the work is carried out. I genuinely enjoy working for such a large and successful company with chances to progress anywhere. I wouldn't be able to choose one as there are too many aspects which I thoroughly enjoy.
