'I joined Johnson Matthey in the Summer of 2006 after completing a four year degree at the University of Surrey, which included a 1 year placement spent within the pharmaceutical industry.
For the first 18 months of my employment I worked on a collaborative EU project investigating sulphur removal from diesel for a fuel cell based auxiliary power unit in a marine application. This role allowed me to gain skills and expertise in materials preparation, characterisation and testing.
These core skills were vital in enabling me to move forward into my next role - working with a customer on catalyst development for a near term industrial application. In this fast paced project, I was responsible for planning and leading the practical work and presenting technical progress at regular review meetings. I particularly enjoyed the significant amount of customer interaction that came with this project.
Whilst continuing to supervise the day-to-day activities of this project, I am now tackling my latest role. This is to identify and develop a practical solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from a challenging application and involves direct contact with a large industrial partner.
I am currently participating in the Group Business Training Course which involves visiting a number of Johnson Matthey sites, seeing manufacturing, fefining, fuel cell and fine chemiclas operations.
As a sports and social committee representative I have been involved in organising events such as football, scuba diving, brewery tours, summer barbeques and Christmas parties.
I have enjoyed my career to date working in challenging positions within a dynamic work place. The friendly and supportive environment within Johnson Matthey makes for an atmosphere that I would strongly recommend working in.'
