Do I need a final product to submit an eXovation proposal?

No. Even just an idea will do. You can submit your project at any stage of its development.

How easy is it to submit my eXovation idea?

Really easy. You can give us as much or as little information as you like about your idea and attach any documents you think might help.

What’s in it for me?

If selected, the chance for Johnson Matthey to help you commercialise your idea. We guarantee that a panel of five qualified senior leaders from Johnson Matthey will personally review every application we receive.

The most compelling ideas will go through to meet the team and the best proposal will be selected to pitch to Johnson Matthey’s Group Management Committee, including our Chief Executive.

That pitch may result in you getting the funding, guidance, scale up or research that your idea needs.

What does that mean for my idea – what will it look like going forward?

Johnson Matthey has a customised approach for the businesses it works with, and it will be the same with yours. Whether we mentor you, give you funding, buy shares, buy your patent or engage you directly we have a structure than will fit your ambitions.

Will my idea be kept confidential by Johnson Matthey?

We will keep your idea confidential within Johnson Matthey. If requested, we would be happy to discuss entering into a mutual confidentiality agreement with you at any stage of the programme. At the appropriate stage, we will request that shortlisted entrants enter into a mutual confidentiality agreement with Johnson Matthey.

Should I come to you if I have patented the idea?

You can. You do not need to have patented the idea to bring it to us, but we are happy to work with patents as well.

What if I’m unable to submit an application form electronically?

If you cannot submit your application by email please post it to:

Does it matter who I am or where I work and live?

It doesn't matter. Whoever you are and wherever you are we want to hear your eXovation idea. We will review and select ideas based solely on their quality, and not by any other consideration.

Is there a cost to submit?

No, there is no cost to submit an idea.

When should I expect a response?

Entries for eXovation are currently closed.

What if I change my mind?

If you want to withdraw an application just email us to let us know you have changed your mind and we will remove it from our process, and confirm this to you. You can also remove your application by letter.

What if I have more than one idea?

That’s fine. We want to see as many good ideas as possible.

What if I am not shortlisted?

If you are not shortlisted you will still be able to follow our progress through this site and on Twitter. We will also be organising a follow up tweetup event in October. Please follow any of the eXovation team on Twitter to receive details of the tweetup.

What if my idea is a problem and I’m not sure of the solution?

At Johnson Matthey we love problems and we have a world class R&D function that lives to solve them. If your problem is at a scale we could realistically help with and relates to one of our global market growth drivers, then we will be happy to look at it.

What happens if my idea is successful after the shortlist?

If your idea is selected as the one to take forward after the shortlist, we will help you present it to Johnson Matthey’s Group Management Committee. We will provide you with as much support as we can to make your idea a success.

Where will the presentation to the executive team be? How would I get there?

We will cover your basic and reasonable travel costs to come to London.
