Matthey, a world leader in advanced materials technology,
is pleased to announce that it has completed the purchase
of the in-house printed circuit board ("PCB") manufacturing
operations of Cray Research Inc. ("Cray").
The $40-million purchase,
announced on 6th February 1996, enhances Johnson
Matthey's strong global position as a supplier of
materials to the microelectronics industry. Under
Johnson Matthey's ownership the plant at Chippewa
Falls Wisconsin will become the company's main manufacturing
facility for plastic laminate packages for the semiconductor
industry. In addition, it will continue to supply
all of Cray's requirement for advanced PCB's.
This acquisition
is part of a major programme of investment in Johnson
Matthey's electronic materials business which will
involve further capital expenditure of some $200
million over the next 3 years.
