Johnson Matthey Receives Major Supplier Award From Intel

Johnson Matthey is delighted to have been honoured by Intel Corporation with its Preferred Quality Supplier Award. Intel's press release was as follows:

Intel Awards Preferred Quality Supplier Status To Five Firms; Annual Award Recognizes Best-in-Class Performance

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--April 29, 1996--Intel Corporation, the world's largest chipmaker, announced today that it has acknowledged five suppliers with its 1995 Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award.

The firms noted for their performance are Johnson Matthey Electronics, Inc., Nitto Denko, Rosenbluth International, Sumitomo Metal (SMI) Electronics Devices, Inc. and United Van Lines, Inc.

Johnson Matthey supplies sputter targets, seal lids, polymer die attach materials and metal die attach materials to Intel. Nitto Denko provides Intel with mold compounds and Sumitomo Metal is a ceramic assembly material supplier. Rosenbluth International handles travel management and meeting planning services for Intel while United Van Lines furnishes electronic and household goods transportation.

Tom Hogue, Intel vice president and director of Materials, said, "Each of this year's quality award winners has made a significant contribution to Intel's success. These key suppliers have demonstrated excellence in a challenging marketplace."

"They delivered the highest quality product and service performance within their respective industries," continued Hogue. "Intel is truly proud to be associated with each of these `winners.'"

To qualify for PQS status, suppliers must attain a score of greater than 525 points out of 1,000 on a self-assessment based on Malcolm Baldrige National Quality award criteria (scores in each of seven sections must be above 50 percent), and 80 percent performance against set improvement plans. In addition, performance to firm guidelines for one year is also required to qualify.

The PQS award is part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) process. The intention of this process is toencourage Intel's key suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement in their operations. A key supplier is one that supplies a product or service deemed essential to Intel's success.

Award certificates will be presented to each supplier Additionally, Intel recognized PQS winners with an advertisement in the Wall Street Journal, which ran in editions on April 25.
