Following its recent strategic
review, Johnson Matthey has formed a new Catalysts and Chemicals
Division which will be the company's primary focus for growth
in the coming years. Last month Johnson Matthey moved FTSE classification
from the Engineering to the Chemicals sector. Both Mr Mackay
and Mr Dearden have a great deal of valuable and relevant experience
of the international markets in which Johnson Matthey operates.
Charles Mackay was Group Chief
Executive of Inchcape PLC from 1991 to 1996 and also its Deputy
Chairman from 1995 to 1996. He is currently Deputy Chairman of
Eurotunnel PLC/SA and of Thistle Hotels plc and is also a member
of the Supervisory Board of Gucci Group NV. He previously served
on a number of Boards including those of HSBC Holdings PLC and
British Airways PLC.
Following an early career in
the chemicals industry Mike Dearden has, since 1980, held a series
of senior positions with Burmah Castrol PLC. He is currently
Chief Executive of Burmah Castrol's global Lubricants business
and a main board director of Burmah Castrol PLC.
Commenting on these appointments,
Michael Miles, Chairman of Johnson Matthey said:
"I am very pleased to welcome
Charles Mackay and Mike Dearden to the Board of Johnson Matthey
as non-executive directors. Both have considerable experience
in Johnson Matthey's international markets and we look forward
to benefitting from this in taking the company forward."
